Dr. Hiramatsu is an urban economist (Ph.D., SUNY-Buffalo 2010), was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of California Riverside and SUNY-Buffalo, and is currently working at Kumamoto Gakuen University. His research interests include exploring the relationships between environmental quality, road congestion and urban sprawl using computable general equilibrium models such as RELU-TRAN which connect the regional economy with land use and transportation; and how such models can be used to design beneficial policies and to test their impacts.
In his Ph.D. dissertation he applied the RELU-TRAN model to evaluate the effects of cordon tolling, fuel taxes and urban growth boundaries on the Chicago MSA. Located at SUNY-Buffalo, he is working with Professor Anas on the MRPI project in the adaptation of the RELU-TRAN model to the Greater Los Angeles Region.
