Song is a PhD student with emphasis on GIScience, in the Department of Geography, at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He conducts the research under the guidance of Prof. Krzysztof Janowicz and Prof. Michael F. Goodchild. He is now working on the University of California Multi-campus Research Project Initiative (MRPI) "A virtual co-laboratory for policy analysis in the LA region". Song’s role in this project is the design and development of a WebGIS GUI to serve a broad user community to run spatial models for online policy analysis and decision making on urban economic development. Prior to attending UCSB, he obtained his M.S. degree in the Geosoft Lab (pkugeosoft.org), Institute of RS and GIS, Peking University, and B.S. in the School of Geography, Beijing Normal University, China. In past research, he worked extensively in analyzing mobile phone records and GPS-enabled taxi trajectories to reveal the spatio-temporal patterns of human mobility and urban transportation dynamics. His research interests now are Big Geo-Data Research with Cloud Computing, Geospatial Semantics and GIScience Theory. In addition, he is sharing his GIS expert knowledge by providing consultations for students&staffs at the UCSB Center for Spatial Studies’ Help Desk.
